An intelligent fuzzy logic-based content and channel aware downlink scheduler for scalable video over OFDMA wireless systems

    Get PDF
The recent advancements of wireless technology and applications make downlink scheduling and resource allocations an important research topic. In this paper, we consider the problem of downlink scheduling for multi-user scalable video streaming over OFDMA channels. The video streams are precoded using a scalable video coding (SVC) scheme. We propose a fuzzy logic-based scheduling algorithm, which prioritises the transmission to different users by considering video content, and channel conditions. Furthermore, a novel analytical model and a new performance metric have been developed for the performance analysis of the proposed scheduling algorithm. The obtained results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms the content-blind/channel aware scheduling algorithms with a gain of as much as 19% in terms of the number of supported users. The proposed algorithm allows for a fairer allocation of resources among users across the entire sector coverage, allowing for the enhancement of video quality at edges of the cell while minimising the degradation of users closer to the base station

Electrochemical Techniques for the Detection of Heavy Metals

    Get PDF
The present chapter emphases on the approach of electrochemical sensor of metallic oxide nanocomposites to sense/detect heavy metal ions. Several methods have been incorporated with modified electrode for the sensing/detection of heavy metal ions. Among these methods square wave anodic stripping voltammetry method and differential normal pulse voltammetry method have been tested and being recommended for the individual analysis as well as simultaneous analysis of heavy metal ions by various researchers. We also endorse the said methods as the best choice for sensing of heavy metal ions however the material phase (plane) is also of specific importance in this regard. We suggest that these methods may be practiced by chemical industries the main sources of heavy metal ions waste. Furthermore, the statistical approach for the detection limit (3σ method) has been illustrated in the last paragraph of this unit

OBJECTIVES The study aimed to review short-term and medium-term outcomes of Snodgrass repair from one-year to two-year follow-up. METHODOLOGY It’s a retrospective review of 114 patients (secondary data) with distal penile hypospadias without curvature who underwent Snodgrass repair performed by a single surgeon in the department of Urology, Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar from March 2021 to March 2022. Hypospadias objective score Evaluation (HOSE) was used for functional and cosmetic outcomes. RESULTSThe mean age at the time of presentation for surgery was 3 years. The mean documented follow-up was 13 months (2-23 months). 51% (58) of patients presented with coronal hypospadias, followed by sub-coronal, distal and glanular hypospadias. Overall complication rate was 10%. Three patients developed a total breakdown of their wounds that needed further staged procedures. Meatal stenosis was noted in three patients requiring meatal dilatation, and another two came back with non-obliterative strictures. One had gentle dilatation, and the other underwent an optical urethrotomy. The rest of the four patients developed urethrocutanoeus fistulae (UCF), ultimately getting repaired 6 months postoperatively. Good cosmetic and functional results were achieved in 93% of cases (HOSE score of 14 or above). CONCLUSION This study shows that Snodgrass repair is the best option for mainly correcting distal penile and midshaft hypospadias and has an acceptably low complication rate with better short to medium-term outcomes

Systematic review of polyherbal combinations used in metabolic syndrome

    Get PDF
Background: Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a multifactorial disease, whose main stay of prevention and management is life-style modification which is difficult to attain. Combination of herbs have proven more efficacious in multi-targeted diseases, as compared to individual herbs owing to the effect enhancing and side-effect neutralizing properties of herbs, which forms the basis of polyherbal therapies This led us to review literature on the efficacy of herbal combinations in MetS. Methods: Electronic search of literature was conducted by using Cinnahl, Pubmed central, Cochrane and Web of Science, whereas, Google scholar was used as secondary search tool. The key words used were metabolic syndrome, herbal/poly herbal, metabolic syndrome, clinical trial and the timings were limited between 2005-2020. Results: After filtering and removing duplications by using PRISMA guidelines, search results were limited to 41 studies, out of which 24 studies were evaluated for combinations used in animal models and 15 in clinical trials related to metabolic syndrome. SPICE and SPIDER models were used to assess the clinical trials, whereas, a checklist and a qualitative and a semi-quantitative questionnaire was formulated to report the findings for animal based studies. Taxonomic classification of Poly herbal combinations used in animal and clinical studies was designed. Conclusion: With this study we have identified the potential polyherbal combinations along with a proposed method to validate animal studies through systematic qualitative and quantitative review. This will help researchers to study various herbal combinations in MetS, in the drug development process and will give a future direction to research on prevention and management of MetS through polyherbal combinations

OBJECTIVES Haemodialysis (HD) is a form of renal replacement therapy commonly prescribed for chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients. However, it is not without deleterious haemodynamic responses which may occur either during or immediately after the termination of the procedure. These may include hypotension or hypertension. The objective of this study was to determine the frequency of intradialytic blood pressure changes in chronic kidney disease patients on maintenance hemodialysis.METHODOLOGY Patients with chronic kidney disease on maintenance hemodialysis were enrolled. Predialysis and immediate post dialysis blood pressure was recorded. Increase in postdialysis blood pressure by >20mmHg was called intradialytic hypertension and decrease by >20mmHg was called intradialytic hypotension.RESULTSA total of 203 patients on maintenance hemodialysis were enrolled. Age of the patients ranged from 18 to 50 years. Mean age of the patients was 39.80 ± 5.245 years. Male to female ratio was 1.8:1. Intradialytic hypotension was observed in 36 patients (17.7%) while intradialytic hypertension was observed in 22 patients (10.8%).CONCLUSIONIntradialysis blood pressure fluctuations such as hypotension and hypertension are common complications during hemodialysis. Intradialytic hypotension is more frequent
